How safe is your home for your baby? And what can you do to make it safer?

From the ages of 4 to 5 years old

When your child has reached this age, they should have already received a form of basic safety education while at pre-school or school and, they should be aware of what is safe and what is not. They are generally more alert to hazards around them and can understand simple instructions.

Children in this age bracket are incredibly quick learners so it’s a perfect time to show them more ways to be safe around the home. Why not let them help you in the kitchen – the perfect opportunity to teach them about hazards such as sharp objects, boiling water or other hot items, and why they shouldn’t touch them.

The best way of preventing accidents around the home in this age group is education. Explain potential hazards to your child and how they can avoid them.
